Gilbert and Pobst To Work In Fast and Furious 2

8/30/2002 - Miramar, FL -- Henry Gilbert is still driving fast; but this time he is taking it to the streets – legally. The busy driver / team owner has another side to his life of high revs in both SPEED World Challenge GT and Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series as a Hollywood stunt driver. Gilbert announced last week that he had begun work on the sequel to the box office hit, The Fast and The Furious.

For Gilbert, the role is exciting but not entirely new. As a member of The Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG), he has been a part of movies like “All About the Benjamins,” but F@F2 has given him a chance to become more involved in the film and its elements. Because driving a modified street car at high speeds takes a talented, well-trained driver, Gilbert’s experience as a Skip Barber Driving School Instructor proves beneficial in teaching the actors to properly handle the cars.

“This is obviously an exciting time for me,” commented Gilbert from the South-Florida movie set. “I am very disappointed that I will have to miss the next three Grand-Am Cup events, but with production-based racing becoming so popular in the USA, being involved with this film project is a great way to help the two worlds come together a bit more and, I hope, help too further boost the popularity of both worlds.”

Knowing Pobst’s talent, Gilbert took the chance to bring his co-driver Grand Am Cup in on the movie to assist in making the precision driving scenes required to make this film’s intensity eclipse that of the first one.

Aside from making the movie, both drivers will remain busy with other projects. Pobst will continue his pursuit of The Porsche Cup Championship driving in both the Grand Am Rolex Series and the Grand Am Cup at The Virginia International Raceway in the scheduled Grand-Am Cup event. Gilbert, on the other hand, is concentrating on regrouping following an on-track incident at Mid-Ohio that left the car in need of various repairs. Due to the rigorous filming schedule, he will regrettably be unable to make a return to the racetrack until season finale at Daytona.
